Submerged arc welding technology parameter is mainly referred to welding current, arc voltage, welding speed, wire diameter and extended length etc. These parameters will affect the weld seam shape and the fusion rate, thus which influence welding quality of LSAW pipes.

Welding Current

Common welding condition, the weld penetration is proportional to the welding current. With the increase of welding current, penetration and the weld residual high will significantly increase but the weld width with little change; meanwhile, the fusion quantity of welding stick will also increase, this will make the weld reinforcement increase. On the contrary, he penetration and residual high will decrease.

Arc Voltage

The increase of the arc voltage, welding width will increase obviously, while, the penetration and weld residual high will fall. But when the arc voltage is too large, not only make the penetration small and produce lack of welding; but also can lead to poor appearance of welded seam, difficult slag removing and even produce the defects like biting edge. Therefore, increase of arc voltage, increase the welding current appropriately.

Welding Speed

When other welding parameters are constant, while welding speed increase; the welding heat input quantity will reduce accordingly, thus the weld penetration is also reduced. Too large welding speed can cause defects like lack of penetration. To ensure the welding quality must guarantee a certain amount of welding heat input, that is to say, improve the productivity and welding speed, should increase welding current and arc voltage accordingly.

Wire Diameter and Extended Length

When other welding parameters are constant, wire diameter will increase, arc column diameter also increases, and the current density decreasing will result in the weld width increasing and the molten depth reducing. Otherwise, molten depth increase and weld width decreases.
When other welding parameters are constant, extended length will increase; resistance will also increase; extended wire by preheating also increase; welding wire melting speed accelerates, resulting in shallow penetration and weld residual high increase. Therefore, control the length of wire extended not too long.
